Spin Training, Upset Prevention and Recovery (UPRT Course)

Spin Training Course (14 CFR 61.183(i) & 61.405 Compliant)

Our Spin Training Course is designed to meet and exceed the FAA requirements outlined in 14 CFR 61.183(i) for Certified Flight Instructor applicants and 61.405 for Sport Pilot flight instructor applicants. This program provides the in-depth understanding, hands-on experience, and confidence necessary to safely recognize, prevent, and recover from both incipient and fully developed spins. Whether you are preparing for your initial CFI certificate or advancing your instructional qualifications, this course delivers the knowledge and practical skillset the FAA mandates.

Training begins with a comprehensive ground session covering the aerodynamics of stalls and spins, regulatory requirements, spin entry conditions, recognition cues, and the use of standardized recovery procedures such as PARE (Power–Ailerons–Rudder–Elevator). We also address common student errors, scenarios that lead to unintentional spins, and instructional strategies for teaching stall awareness and spin avoidance—an essential focus for every future instructor.

In flight, you will perform a series of maneuver demonstrations progressing from stall identification to intentional spin entries and recoveries. Under the guidance of an experienced instructor, you will learn to identify spin phases, apply proper control inputs, and recover promptly while maintaining situational awareness and aircraft control. Emphasis is placed on repeatable, disciplined technique so that you can confidently teach these concepts to others, not just perform them yourself.

Upon completion of the course, you will receive the required endorsement confirming that you have received both the aerodynamics, spin awareness, stall/spin accident analysis, and the instruction, entry, and recovery training mandated by the FAA. More importantly, you will leave with a heightened understanding of aircraft behavior at the edges of the envelope—skills that enhance your safety, strengthen your instructional effectiveness, and elevate your overall airmanship.
